Community Advisory Committee The nine-member Sunflower Foundation Community Advisory Committee (CAC) nominates candidates for the foundation’s Board of Trustees. The CAC also acts in an advisory role to the foundation and reviews the annual reports. The Kansas attorney general appoints eight of the committee members; the ninth member is the chair of the Sunflower Foundation, serving ex-officio with vote. Terms of office are three years and committee members may serve up to three consecutive terms. Current CAC members:
Barbara Carswell, Lawrence, is vice president, Capitol Federal Savings, Topeka Phyllis Gilmore, Olathe, is executive director of the Kansas Behavioral Science Regulatory Board in Topeka. James Mireles, Garden City, is principal of Garden City High School. Janet Schalansky, Topeka, is president and chief executive officer of the Kansas Children’s Service League. Karen A. Seals, Lawrence, is a post-doctoral associate with the Juniper Gardens Children’s Project at the Schiefelbusch Institute for Life Span Studies at the University of Kansas. She serves as secretary of the CAC. Mark Douglas Sheern, Abiliene, is a family practice physician. Robert K. Thomen, Chanute, is a family practice physician. Chris Ruder, Lenexa, is vice president, patient care services, University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, and serves on the CAC as chair of the Sunflower Foundation Board of Trustees.
