Areas of Interest

Since its inception, the Sunflower Foundation has been concerned about issues related to access to health care and disease prevention/health promotion. With a mission to serve as a catalyst, the foundation’s program is a balance between grantmaking, foundation initiatives and special projects.

Our current program activities focus on the following areas:

Health Care Access – Projects that focus on improving access to health care for growing numbers of uninsured and underinsured, with an emphasis on community based health services, and projects that address health disparities;

Capacity Building – Projects that strengthen the organizational capacity of community-based health and human services organizations, with a focus on organizations that provide primary health care and prevention services;

Healthy Behaviors and Prevention – Projects that emphasize the importance of physical activity and healthy nutrition as a means to preventing obesity, especially in children and youth, and projects that seek to prevent or control tobacco use among Kansans, with an emphasis on children and youth; and

Special Projects – Projects that offer unique opportunities for partnerships, collaborations and leveraging.
